Den Hartogh goes global

Den Hartogh Logistics has decided to extend its business portfolio from intermodal Europe to a global chemical bulk liquid operation as announced by its Group Managing Director Pieter den Hartogh.

Den Hartogh Logistics, operating a fleet of road tankers, tank containers and trucks in a European network operation for bulk liquid chemicals and gasses as well as cleaning and storage operations, is one of the leading logistical operators in Europe. The company network covers all countries in Europe, as well as the former Soviet republics (CIS) and Turkey.

According to Pieter den Hartogh:” Now is the time for the company to grow further into a global logistical operator role for bulk liquid chemicals and gases, thus being good news for chemical shippers and the Den Hartogh Logistics organization. Following the global expansion of chemical shippers, this is a natural development for a company which has seen considerable growth over the past 10 years in Europe.”

The global transport operation will be organized as a separate business unit, called Den Hartogh Global, with its home base in The Netherlands. From this home base all global traffic from and to Europe, Middle East and Africa will be served. For the America’s, Den Hartogh will be based in Houston and for Asia Pacific this will be Singapore and Shanghai. Individual countries in mentioned regions will be served by an agent network.

For supporting activities, the existing functions of Den Hartogh Logistics, like fleet management and administration, will be used. This is designed to ensure the use of synergies between intermodal and global transport logistics combining a European network with a Global network. It is believed that at Den Hartogh Logistics these synergies can make the difference in comparison with the competition.

Another difference Pieter den Hartogh is sure about is the outstanding ICT system developed for the intermodal tank container business. This proven system will guarantee full transparency for customers and internal users enabling an effective and low cost operation, thus ensuring the competitiveness in price and quality of Den Hartogh Logistics. The system will provide analytical business tools and logistical know-how beneficial for customers and users.

During 2011 the present organization will be developed further and the existing modest global volume will be grown by increasing market development actively.

In order to support the growth of the business, a new build program for ISO tank containers is approved, tanks to be delivered during 2011, 2012 and 2013.

The ambition in the Den Hartogh Logistics organization is high and the defined target for 2015 is to operate a fleet of around 5,000 tank containers in the global operation.

Pieter den Hartogh indicated that the build-up of the business will be two-fold: “We will combine generic growth with working together, if possible with others active on a global scale.”
